In 1990 a group of citizens came together to gather signatures for an initiative petition to raise Oklahoma City’s sales tax by ⅛ cent to help fund the Oklahoma City Zoo. Those citizens were successful and today the Zoo receives an extra $14 million in operational funds. Now we have an opportunity to do the same to build the basic services to allow everyone in Oklahoma City to thrive.
We want to build a city where every citizen can enjoy our parks, have access to first class facilities, and have the opportunity to use a safe, dependable, and affordable bus system. These are just some of the basics that most other cities can enjoy and we want to build that right here in Oklahoma City.
We are a group of citizens, civic leaders, and others that want to help fund our parks and transportation services. We plan to gather signatures to expand Oklahoma City’s sales tax, dedicating ⅛ cent to parks and ⅛ to transportation. This would bring in revenue that could be used to bring restrooms, maintenance and new programs to our parks, as well as expanding hours and routes for the city’s bus system.
